LORIER,
a programme
included in 2025 strategic plan
of Inserm

LORIER, “L’Organisation pour une Recherche Inserm Ethique et Responsable” (Organization for Ethical and Responsible Research at Inserm) concerns all types of staff and activity. Its aim is to foster the development of a common culture of ethical and responsible research, and to improve the accountability, transparency, reproducibility and quality of research.

Those who wish to get involved are invited to join in building tools and resources, as well as to get involved in the dissemination and implementation of this programme.

LORIER is supported by working groups and networks of “ambassadors”, who are at once the resources and the driving forces of the process.

The aim of the LORIER programme

LORIER covers issues related to ethics, responsibility, scientific integrity, deontology, reproducibility, open science, research quality and research on research. It is intended to involve all Inserm structures (scientific council, department managements, thematic institutes, specialized scientific commissions, regional delegations, core facilities, laboratories, etc.), in order to strengthen this culture and promote changes in the way we operate as a whole. We need to work together in the field, to provide practical help to teams and individuals so as to reduce the counter-productive incentives present in our research system, and to develop positive incentives to encourage change.

The programme is organized into four closely linked action plans :
